Applicants will prepare a 300 word essay on why corporate responsibility is important.

Applicants will also provide two additional samples of written work.

Position Summary

The Communications and Public Affairs Department of The Winnipeg Humane Society (WHS) is responsible for all internal and external communication strategies and projects. External communications includes corporate communications – branding and public relations, the website, development of various communications products, supporting the CEO in his representation of The WHS; and program communications – from coordinating new and existing community outreach programs, and event and/or advocacy support. The Communications Coordinator is a vital member to the success of the Communications & Public Affairs Department, and thus to The Winnipeg Humane Society as a whole. The individual should be willing to expect as much responsibility as you can handle across all areas of these areas.

The Coordinator must be open-minded and flexible, pro-active, and eager to learn by doing; this individual must be willing and able to multi-task and handle a varied workload with many tasks needing accomplishing; this individual must be organized.In addition the Coordinator will have a good eye for design, possessing intuitive attributes in a variety of these areas. You must demonstrate superb public/customer service skills, maturity, confidence; as well as creativity and vision.

Qualifications:

Experience/Education

Computer skills essential; Knowledge of Indesign, Adobe professional suite

University degree or college certificate in communications

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Planning and Implementation

Responsible for developing and implementing community outreach activities, campaigns, and strategies to promote WHS programs and services, with a strong focus on WHS adoptable animals. Organize, attend, and/or participate in outreach events and promotions. Maintain outreach portion of the communications calendar.

Social Media

Build “creative/graphics” and/or information for the website: billboards, news stories, Blogs as required.
Day to day management of the WHS Facebook page, including updating and ongoing monitoring, gaining input from WHS staff as necessary.
Assessing and ensuring information applicable to the website may be appropriate to post on The WHS Facebook page.
Post videos, podcasts, etc. to WHS Youtube.com and itunes.com accounts as necessary.
Post one video a minimum of twice a month (ideally every week) of both a retail item and an adoptable animal; monthly video to face chat on advocacy issue

Other Communications, Publications, Materials

To assist in the production of other internal and external WHS communications, publications, materials, and press releases, in consultation with other WHS staff.

Design, Branding, and Images

To maintain a ‘house-style’ in all WHS written communications
To maintain, in liaison with other WHS staff and external consultants as required, strong WHS visual branding
To maintain the WHS photo library for use across a range of communications forms.

Events & Community Outreach

To contribute to planning of and arrangements for WHS Communications & Public Awareness events, in particular regarding production of materials, media coordination, and distribution of press materials, as required.

Work-placement forms for second-year students

Nothing like work-placement forms to ease the Thanksgiving digestion.

I'll be visiting the major classes on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to hold a half-hour work-placement orientation.

Work Placement 1 will take place during the first three weeks of semester 4 (Tuesday, Jan. 3 to Friday, Jan. 20) and Work Placement 2 will take place during the last three weeks of semester 4 (Monday, April 9 to Friday, April 27 – but note that the Monday is Easter Monday – which means some placements may start on the following day).

Hand in your completed application form and a resume to my hand-in basket in W302 by Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 9 a.m. Missing this deadline – or either of these pieces - for any reason means that you are not eligible for a work placement. Best bet: hand them in early in case you get sick or something goes wrong.

The Director of Media & Communications:

Writes and distributes all media releases
Represents Pride Winnipeg in media interviews
Manages relationships with members of the media

Hire freelance writers to produce editorial content on as as-needed basis

4. Issues Management

Monitor the mainstream media as well as alternative (social) media channels
Be on the lookout for emerging issues
Be proactive about bringing any such issues to the attention of the Chair and developing a response/plan of action

If your group would like your magazine cover to be included in a series of covers displayed on the plasma screens in the Atrium during Thursday's magazine fair, here's what to do.

1. Go to John Pura's server space on Wallace CAINSTRUCTOR/John Pura

2. Create a folder named "MF2011" followed by your magazine name e.g. "MF2011Thingamajig" or "MF2011Burlap" or

3. Into that folder, please deposit:

A word or text file with the magazine contact info in case John has problems or questions about the submitted info
A jpeg of the cover
A pdf of the cover, and if possible
The packaged InDesign cover or Photoshop (layered)/Illustrator files

Time on-screen will depend on how many submissions John receives, but he estimates each will run for about 1 minute.

1. Campaign Administration:

a) Builds and maintains close working relationship with Campaign Chair, administration and volunteers

b) Creates, manages and maintains documentation related to donor meetings and requests

c) Develops and implements business processes related to campaign information management

d) Prepares campaign documents including correspondence, proposals, briefing notes, minutes, memorandums and other Campaign materials

e) Develops strategy to build and maintain momentum during the campaign

f) Develops communications strategy (using paid and leveraged media) to support campaign goals

g) Develops print, online and social media-based marketing materials and manages annual appeals.

2. Donor Stewardship

a) Manages, plans, develops, implements and evaluates stewardship plans for an assigned group of major donors

b) Establishes and maintains relationship with donors including arranging visits, announcements, information exchanges.

c) Assists with the creation of gift agreements

d) Develops and implements business processes to ensure IHMS fulfills recognition and stewardship obligations as defined in gift agreements

e) Develops and maintains an inventory of acknowledgement letters and manages their delivery

f) Works with Board Committee to develop and manage Alumni data base

3. Event Management

a) In co-operation with school administration, plans, organizes, and presents donor recognition events, cheque presentations, public meetings, news conferences and other events as part of the campaign.

4. Additional Duties:

a) Handles the daily support functions of a capital campaign including the responding to phone calls, supporting and co-ordinating campaign volunteers

b) Related duties as required to support operations.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Fluency in Ukrainian an asset

Education

• Minimum completion of a two-year diploma program with a preferred emphasis on Public Relations, Marketing, and/or Communications or equivalent experience.

Experience

• Experience in event planning and implementation.

• Experience working with and coordinating volunteers and/or staff is considered an asset.

• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and direct experience using a database and developing presentations using PowerPoint.

Reporting to the Director, Communications & Public Engagement, the Issues Management Advisor develops issues management strategies and proactive initiatives and activities in support of the goals and objectives of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Accountable for the implementation of CMHR Issues Management guidelines and processes, with particular emphasis on an “early warning system” which identifies and addresses areas of significant concern or potential embarrassment
Contributes to and reviews written communication to ensure consistent museum messaging and presentation. Ensures the consistency of quality, branding and messaging in all museum responses.

Analyses government programmes, policies and positions affecting the CMHR or its key publics and recommend appropriate actions.

The festival attracts hundreds of visitors from around the region and around the world. RRC names Stephanie Forsyth as next president and CEO

The Board of Governors of Red River College is proud to announce the appointment of Stephanie Forsyth as the institution's next President and CEO.

Forsyth is currently the President of Northwest Community College (NWCC), based in Terrace, British Columbia, serving 10 communities in northern BC. She has held this position for the past ten years.

"Red River College is a dynamic and innovative institution that makes a significant contribution to the social and economic development of Manitoba," said Forsyth. "It is a good fit with my values and leadership style and a terrific opportunity."

Forsyth cited RRC's national reputation, growing applied research program in sustainable technology, capital expansion plan and focus on aboriginal education as factors that drew her to the position.

"Stephanie’s positive and supportive leadership style will nurture the people-centered culture we're creating at Red River College," said Sheryl Feller, Chair of RRC's Board of Governors. "The Board is particularly impressed with her commitment to enhancing post-secondary education for aboriginal students, which is a strategic priority for the College and the Province."

At NWCC, Forsyth has woven indigenous knowledge and traditions into the college culture, and strengthened ties with aboriginal communities through initiatives like the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, the House of Learning and Applied Research, and the Challenge the Paradigm Conference on decolonizing post-secondary education. She is of Blackfoot ancestry, and is an adopted member of the Tsimshian Nation.

Forsyth has also been a leader within the Canadian college system in advocating for sustainability. She has challenged her colleagues across the country to green their campuses, initiated an ambitious plan to make NWCC a carbon-neutral institution, and overseen construction of several LEED Gold construction projects.

Prior to joining NWCC in 2000, Forsyth spent seven years as Dean of Community & College Partnerships and Dean of Career & Vocational Programs at Capilano College. She has also previously worked as an instructor and academic leader at Malaspina University College, Vancouver Community College and Selkirk College.

Forsyth holds a Bachelor of Arts from Acadia University, a Master of Education from the University of British Columbia, and is currently completing a PhD in Higher Education from Deakin University in Australia. She is a Director of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges, the BC Achievement Foundation, Science World British Columbia, and the BC Post-Secondary Roundtable on Aboriginal Education.

Forsyth’s progressive vision, passionate leadership, and tireless work have brought vibrancy and innovation to NWCC, resulting in a college actively engaged in the social and economic development of the northwest and a leader in Aboriginal education. She leaves NWCC well-positioned for continued excellence.

Forsyth will assume her new position on September 27, 2010. Catherine Rushton will continue to serve as Interim President & CEO until that time.

We've come to the end of the first year of the great CreComm Blog Network experiment -- and from everything we've heard, it was a success. We'll be continuing this blog network throughout the next academic year and beyond.

To keep things tidy, though, we will be doing a monthly cull of the blogroll. Some of our grads may decide to abandon the blogs they began in our program; so at the end of each month, any grad's blog that hasn't been updated in that month will be removed from the blogroll.

Continuing students' blogs will remain on the blogroll for now, as we know they'll be picking up again in the fall.
